LITERATURE REVIEW
Note to myself:
-read on theories and theoretical frameworks concerning this issue
- Krashen (1982) comprehensible input ---> polish up - read more on other hypotheses
- other views against SLS (such as reducing effectiveness of listening due to students focusing on reading words on subtitle)
- INDIA MASS LITERACY-using same language subtitling (can it be practiced here in Malaysia-the impact?) addressing the vocab issue.

Brij Kothari, adjunct professor of IIM Ahmedabad, does some out of the box thinking to deepen literacy skills among neo-literates in India. But, as he takes stock of the project a decade and half later, he admits the slow progress is tiresome. Perhaps shows that countries like ours are still to move fast on problems that need urgent solving. Basically, same-language subtitling uses subtitles for popular film songs, so that neo-literates can enjoy themselves, sing-along, and also deepen their literacy skills while doing so. |
Excuse me, your idiocy is showing...
Just finished answering Test 1. All I can say, at this point of time... I feel like an idiot.. Adoilaaaa.. need to brush up my knowledge more on this subject. (T.T)
Just a rough idea of what I have at the moment.
Supreme Sunday!
Heh.. who would have known that next to this wide open window where sunshine flourishes its ray in, brighten the room so fine that I'll be sitting here on this pre-loved sofa facing my laptop placed on this DIY pallet coffee table that my housemate and I had made last week, typing this entry as a short break from my continuous eye-twitching moment of searching for online materials to build up my research proposal.
I feel blessed that I've finally hit by my ever dream momentum to build my RP today. It strikes like nobody's business, which for me is a good thing. No dilly dally. It's just me, the RP and a good cup of tea! :)
p/s: Just finished finalizing the RP's intro.. and I met this one cute hypothesis from uncle Krashen. I'll use that to backbone the study of my research. :p

Twitchy Tuesday!
Yeeeehaa!! Twitchy Tuesday!! A bit nervous and all but I'm so glad that up to this point I've got plentiful of journals and articles, just the right amount to kick start my research proposal... Anddddddd...... I've got the right topic for me this time around!! Yeayyy!! The one that I like and comfortable about doing it. The one that excites me, dwells me with much imagination of where this research could go. hehehe :p Alas, I will have to ask for Dr. Aziah's opinion about this matter. Can't simply splash myself into this whirlpool of excitement without testing the water first. Can I? Anyhow, upon googling journals and articles needed, I have found this one great trick guide which beneficial for me and just about anyone who would go hunting for info through Google. Feel free to save the picture next to these wordy blabs of mine. I hope it is much of a help for all of us, EDU770 army. :p Salwa O. 1st April 2014 (2.30pm) |
Panic Attack~
Help.. I'm lost..
Honestly speaking, I'm lost. Not because that I can't relate Dr. Aziah's insights while being in her class, but I guess the topic that I chose (Web 2.0 and ESL learners) is rather a bit restricted for me when it comes to collecting data. (The topic itself is too sophisticated, I just don't think I can cope with it). As if i were collared down like a dog on a leash over choosing topic that is related to ESL so that I can pursue this proposal to the next level on semester 2. sigh*
Being as a graduate of APB gives me the chance to see the vast side of linguistic aspects that need attention. However, most of the topics I had in my mind was all about the non-related ESL teaching and learning kind of thing. Like perusing language in brochures of web or something.. see, not related to teaching and learning.. So I decided to go back to ground zero. There are two topics I have in my mind now. Both are about Vocabulary Learning.. I will start gathering my armour of journals and articles in putting this topic in solid kingdom as soon as possible. There are so many things need to be done by now. No dilly dally from this point. I hope Dr. Aziah would be so kind to assist me with this. I really do. Finger crossed!
